Peterson Nutrition and Fitness: Services

Specialties: Gastrointestinal Disorders

The primary function of the GI tract is to absorb nutrients. Any disruption can have an impact on nutrition, and therefore, managing of GI issues requires nutrition treatment.

Congratulations for taking the important first step of reaching out for professional help. I can help you sort through the misinformation and come up with a personal plan for you. If you suffer from a GI issue, I will work with you and the rest of your treatment team to help you heal. A multidisciplinary approach is the best approach, and I can make recommendations for team members on request.

Some of the GI issues patients suffer with:

  • GERD
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Celiac Disease
  • Constipation

Purpose of Nutrition Care:

  • Provide adequate energy and nutrients to support tissue healing and allow normal nutrient digestion and absorption
  • Prevent malnutrition
  • Minimize gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Promote normal bowel function

Elisabeth will help you do this by:

  • Teaching you ways to change food and exercise behaviors.
  • Teaching you about supplemental formulas that may be useful.
  • Increasing your awareness of the need for macro and micro nutrients and how to increase them through food or supplementation.
  • Assist your understanding of connection between drug nutrition interactions.
  • Collaborating with your team to coordinate care.

Several visits are recommended until symptoms have subsided and demonstration of adequate knowledge and skill in selecting appropriate foods and adherence to treatment plan is observed.
